Walter Nagel resigns from Crowell & Moring to return in-house as VP/Chief Tax Officer at media giant, Gannett
Walter Nagel has returned to his commercial roots this month, becoming Chief Tax Officer for the media giant Gannett (which boasts USA Today as one of its publications).
In his new role he will be responsible for U.S. and international tax policy, tax compliance, tax planning, tax controversy and tax accounting. The group has major interests in the US and UK.
Mr Nagel started his career with TWA in a finance role, specialising in tax in 1983 when he joined AT&T. In 1986 he moved to MCI Corp where he progressed to VP and General Tax Counsel.
In 2004 Mr Nagel joined Sullivan & Worcester, moving to Reed Smith in 2010 as a tax partner. For the past 3 years he has been a tax partner at Crowell & Moring.
