Ivins, Phillips & Barker has announced that Mindy Herzfeld has joined its corporate and international tax groups, located in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. Ms. Herzfeld has significant experience advising public and private companies on corporate and international tax matters.
“I’ve admired Mindy’s columns in Tax Notes for years, and I’m delighted to have her as part of the Ivins corporate and international tax team,” said corporate tax partner Larry Axelrod. Ivins Managing Partner Eric Fox commented that “Mindy’s background and expertise make her a perfect fit for Ivins’ practice, and she’ll be a tremendous resource in advising our large domestic and multinational clients, including on the impact of U.S. tax reform.”
Immediately prior to joining Ivins, Ms. Herzfeld was Contributing Editor to Tax Notes International where she has written more than 150 articles on international tax policy developments and cross-border transactions. She has also written extensively on U.S. tax reform efforts. Her articles have been quoted extensively in academic and government publications.
Prior to joining Tax Analysts (publisher of Tax Notes International), Ms. Herzfeld practiced in the international tax group of a Big 4 accounting firm in both its New York and National Tax offices. She provided transactional advice to U.S. and foreign multinational corporations, private equity funds, venture capital funds and individuals on a broad range of cross-border tax issues. She has structured acquisitions, joint ventures, and dispositions including spin-offs and has led complex cross-border restructuring projects. Ms. Herzfeld has also conducted reviews for due diligence and audit purposes of companies’ financial statement tax positions. She has served as lead international tax advisor for both public and private clients and investment funds.
Ms. Herzfeld started her career at Weil, Gotshal and Manges in New York City and has also worked as in-house tax counsel at a Fortune 50 company. Ms. Herzfeld holds a B.A. in history from Barnard College, a J.D. from Yale Law School, where she was an editor on the Yale Law Journal and an LL.M. in Taxation (with distinction) from Georgetown University Law Center. She clerked for Judge I. Leo Glasser of the Eastern District of New York.
In addition to joining Ivins’ Washington D.C. office, Ms. Herzfeld has been appointed Professor of Tax Practice and Director of the LL.M. In International Tax program at the University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law beginning in Fall 2017.
The arrival of Ms. Herzfeld continues Ivins’ expansion of its tax-related legal services teams. Earlier in February 2017, Steve Witmer rejoined the firm’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice.
