BLP announces that Damian Bloom is the new Head of Private Client Tax
International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has today announced the appointment of Partner Damian Bloom as Practice Group Leader for Private Client within the Tax team. Damian takes over the role from Jonathan Kropman, who will remain at the firm.
Damian joined BLP in 2005 from Macfarlanes and was made a Partner at BLP in 2007. He has more than 20 years’ experience advising on tax, trust and estate planning both in the UK and globally. His focus is on wealth management for Ultra and High Net Worth Individuals and their families. Damian introduced the first Statutory Residence App and is a member of the Association of Tax Technicians and STEP.
Former Private Client Practice Group Leader, Jonathan Kropman, will remain a key member of BLP’s tax team and continue to focus on client trust work. Damian’s appointment is one of a number of changes that BLP Global Head of Tax, Elizabeth Bradley has instigated since becoming BLP Global Head of Tax in 2016.
Commenting on his appointment, Damian said: “The Private Client team at BLP is in great shape and now is a particularly exciting time to lead the group. With an increasingly international remit, our focus is on helping clients plan for the future, by enabling them to address issues in a timely manner and take advantage of opportunities that will enhance their legacy for others. Our team, which has proven experience across the private client spectrum, advises clients with international interests.”
Elizabeth Bradley, Global Head of Tax at BLP, added: “Damian’s expertise makes him the ideal appointment to lead the team. We’ve worked together for over a decade and I’ve admired his ambition and drive. I’m looking forward to him playing a pivotal role in our strategic development.”
BLP’s Tax team is recognised as one of the broadest and largest in the City with a global capability to reflect its international client base. The integrated team spans London, Germany, Moscow, Asia and the Middle East, and excels in delivering complex, cross-border corporate tax advice on big ticket transactions, as well as wealth management advice to an increasing range of international private clients. The team was further strengthened in May of this year with the Partner appointment of Corporate Tax specialist Mark Brailsford.
