James Meakin joins corporate tax practice at Dentons London
Dentons has bolstered its Corporate Tax practice in London with the hire of partner James Meakin. James joins the Firm from Charles Russell Speechlys where he was also a partner.
James has a broad practice and advises a variety of clients in relation to the tax issues facing their businesses and transactions. He focuses on the tax aspects of corporate and real estate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, group reorganisations, joint ventures, venture capital and private equity from both a UK and cross-border perspective.
Commenting on James’s hire, Jeremy Cohen, Dentons’ CEO for the UK and Middle East, said, “Over the last year our cross-border Tax team has acted on some of Europe’s most high profile deals across the private equity, corporate and real estate sectors. This experience, combined with our market-leading reputation for tax advice to clients investing into and out of emerging markets like the Middle East, Africa and the CIS, positions us particularly well to provide clients with specialist tax advice, wherever they need it. James’s arrival further strengthens these capabilities and gives us additional capacity to better serve our clients. We are pleased to have him on board.”
James is the second Tax partner to join Dentons in London in the last few months. His hire follows the recruitment of partner Alex Tostevin from Weil Gotshal & Manges in June 2017.
In October 2017 Dentons more than doubled the size of its UK Tax practice through its merger with Maclay Murray & Spens in Scotland, adding three Tax partners and a number of associates across offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The combination consolidated the specialist skills Dentons’ Tax team has to offer and service clients, including planning and structuring for corporate deals and transactions, financial services tax, real estate taxes, planning for cross-border transactions, VAT, employment transactions including share schemes, and drafting and negotiating tax warranties and indemnities on corporate M&A transactions. The team also has experience in advising ultra high net-worth individuals.
