BDO Australia hires Transfer Pricing expert, Joel Phillips
BDO Australia has appointed Transfer Pricing expert, Joel Phillips, as a Partner in its Sydney office.
Mr Phillips, worked for global fast-moving consumer goods giant, Unilever, for the last decade, leading transfer pricing matters in regions including the America’s, Asia, Africa, East Europe and South East Asia / Australia.
Zara Ritchie, Head of Global Transfer Pricing services at BDO said never before has the industry seen the level of complexity in the tax environment that clients are facing today.
“Transfer Pricing continues to be one of the key issues facing global companies who have cross border operations,” Zara said.
“Multinationals need increased support and guidance to navigate these waters. We are seeing government’s taking a hard line stance on base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) and perceived tax avoidance strategies.
“Transfer Pricing is becoming even more important to our clients as revenue authorities from around the world vie for tax revenue in an increasingly challenging and fast-moving economic environment.
“Since the Chevron decision and other high-profile developments on Transfer Pricing globally, demand has surged by multinationals seeking transfer pricing guidance and support.
“We are very excited to have Joel join our Australian Transfer Pricing team. His commercial experience managing and implementing transfer pricing arrangements within a corporate environment will be invaluable in understanding and advising clients in practice.”
“At Unilever Joel led a number of cross border restructures, managing disputes and negotiating complex advanced pricing agreements (“APA’s”). Joel also participated as a representative of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Consultation Meeting for Transfer Pricing regarding BEPS and Intangibles.”
