Glyn Fullelove is 2019/2020 CIOT President
The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has announced its team of Officers for 2019-20. Current CIOT Deputy President Glyn Fullelove will be President, with Peter Rayney the Deputy President and Susan Ball Vice-President.
Glyn is Chairman of the Technical Committee of the CIOT and a former Chairman of the International Taxes Sub-Committee. Until September 2018 he headed the tax function at Informa PLC and has held senior tax and finance roles in commerce for the last 20 years.
Glyn Fullelove, current CIOT Deputy President, said:
“As a country we live in uncertain times, and the UK tax profession will no doubt face many short term challenges, whatever form Brexit ultimately takes. However, the CIOT is in a strong position whatever the future holds. I am looking forward to working with Peter and Susan, the CIOT Council and our staff team at Monck Street to ensure the long term success of the Institute.
“Coming from a commerce background, I would like to encourage members of the CIOT who work in-house to participate fully in the life of the Institute, through our volunteer activities, and I hope to be able to engage with them in particular over the next year.”
Peter Rayney will be the Institute’s new Deputy President. Peter practices as an independent tax consultant, having previously been a tax partner at BDO LLP. He is a widely-recognised tax author and lecturer and regularly contributes to the professional press. Peter won the Institute’s Fellowship Thesis prize for his thesis on selling companies for a deferred consideration (with particular reference to earn-outs).
Peter Rayney, current CIOT Vice-President, said:
“I look forward to another challenging and exciting year in my new role as the CIOT’s Deputy President. It is a great pleasure working with our enthusiastic and indefatigable team of Officers and CIOT management.
“We see enormous changes in the professional tax landscape and I am immensely proud to help serve our Institute in providing the best services for its members and students. We have also an extremely important role to play in making sure that new tax law and HMRC policy is understandable, works fairly, and avoids unintended adverse consequences.”
Susan Ball is a Partner, Head of National Employers Advisory Services, at Crowe UK LLP covering employment tax and national insurance, reward & expatriate tax. She has been a CIOT Council member since 2017. She is also a member of CIOT’s Employment Taxes Sub-Committee and a past Joint Chair and founder member of the CIOT/ATT Suffolk Branch. She writes and lectures on employment tax and national insurance.
Susan Ball, CIOT Vice-President elect, said:
“It is an honour to take on the role of Vice-President at such a pivotal time for our profession.
“It is now more than 100 years since women got the vote and, as a profession, we will also soon reach the 100 year landmark since the accountancy bodies opened up to women. With tax, gender and diversity in the workplace never far from public discussion I am really looking forward to raising the voice of the CIOT’s women members working in all spheres of the industry, over the coming years. We want to empower everyone in the profession regardless of background, ethnicity, sexuality or a disability to achieve their potential and be agents of change.”
The team of Officers was formally approved by the CIOT’s Council last month. They will begin their new roles on 21 May 2019 and hold them for a year. Until then Ray McCann remains Institute President.
