 In Harbottle & Lewis

Harbottle & Lewis has today announced the appointment of Marcus Parker as a partner in its Private Capital practice, strengthening further the firm’s offshore tax, trusts and estates offering.

Marcus has over 20 years’ experience in the private client industry as both a lawyer and, for the last seven years, as a professional trustee in the Cayman Islands.

Marcus’ practice focuses on establishing efficient and effective international structures to hold and manage the global wealth of international families. He has also developed particular expertise in contentious trust and estate matters helping to resolve the often tricky issues which arise when trusts (and their underlying companies and assets) become troubled or distressed as a result of family disputes, divorce, challenges from outsiders, mistakes, tax issues or fraud.

Before moving to the Cayman Islands in 2013, Marcus was a founding partner of London-based boutique private client law firm New Quadrant Partners.

Marcus has a long-standing reputation in the offshore private client arena, including recognition in Legal Week’s “Private Client Global Elite”, a peer recommended list of the world’s elite lawyers and trustees advising ultra-high net worth clients. He is also ranked top in his field by Chambers and Partners, Citywealth and Who’s Who Legal.

Glen Atchison, Managing Partner, Harbottle & Lewis, said:

“In an increasingly international mobile world, the requirements of private individuals are becoming more complex and often multi-jurisdictional. Our practice continues to evolve to meet these needs and Marcus’ experience, particularly in developing global structures and navigating complex issues in both contentious and non-contentious offshore matters, further enhances our offering. His understanding and experience of the Cayman market is also hugely valuable and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

Marcus Parker comments:

“There is a growing need for ultra-wealthy global families to have seasoned and trusted advisers who have extensive experience dealing with multi-jurisdictional issues and disputes which may lead to complex litigation. I am looking forward to working with the stellar team at Harbottle & Lewis to coordinate and orchestrate the firm’s expertise in litigation, tax, trusts and estates, reputation protection and immigration for global wealthy families.”

Marcus’ appointment continues the expansion of the firm’s Private Capital offering, which welcomed immigration specialist Sarah Gogan earlier this month, as well as the hires in October 2020 of private client partner Zoë Camp and her team.
