Eversheds Sutherland has bolstered its tax offering with the appointment of Richard Johnson as partner in its Leeds office.

Richard brings a wealth of experience to his new role, particularly in real estate and employment tax.

Having originally trained at Eversheds Sutherland, where he qualified into the tax team in Leeds, Richard is now rejoining the firm as a partner after a seven year tenure at DLA Piper.

Richard’s broad practice encompasses real estate, corporate, and employment tax. He acts for a diverse client base, including UK domestic and multinational groups, listed and unlisted entities, and entities in both the public and private sectors.

He advises on complex real estate transactions, corporate and employment tax matters, and M&A, including pre-transaction structuring, drafting and negotiation of transaction documents, and post-completion integration and separation.

Ben Jones, Partner and Co-Head of Global Tax, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Richard to our team and back to Eversheds Sutherland. His extensive experience in real estate, corporate and employment tax will significantly enhance our tax practice. Richard’s ability to provide clear and practical guidance to a diverse client base aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients.”

Colin Askew, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:

“Richard’s track record of advising on complex tax matters, particularly in the real estate and employment sectors, will be a valuable addition to our firm. His knowledge and experience will strengthen our ability to meet the varying needs of our clients and support our continued growth in these areas. I very much look forward to working with him.”

Richard Johnson, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:

“I am thrilled to rejoin Eversheds Sutherland, a firm that holds a special place in my professional journey. I am eager to get started, reconnect with old colleagues, forge new relationships, and contribute to the continued success of our esteemed tax practice. With my extensive experience in real estate and employment tax, I look forward to working alongside our talented corporate, employment and real estate teams to deliver exceptional service to our diverse client base.”

Richard’s arrival further strengthens Eversheds Sutherland’s tax capabilities, following the recent appointments of partner Robert Waterson in London, and tax partner duo, Chantal Presilli and Zoya Zalmai in Amsterdam. More broadly, the firm has bolstered its presence in Leeds with the recent appointment of Simon Kenyon as partner and International Head of its Technology Media and Telecoms (TMT) disputes practice.
