Blick Rothenberg has appointed Karen Groat as a Global Mobility Director to enhance their offering to Scotland’s offshore energy sector.

Alan Tam, Head of Global Mobility at the firm, said: “I am thrilled that Karen has joined our growing team. She is based in Aberdeen, a key strategic market for Blick Rothenberg, Azets UK and Ireland, and the wider Azets Group.”

He added: “Karen has specialist expertise in the tax and compliance obligations affecting offshore personnel, including crew working on drilling rigs, support vessels, construction fleets, and other marine assets; offshore industries operate globally and require highly specialised talent like hers to move seamlessly across borders.”

Alan said: “Global mobility is a key part of our overall offering. Our clients operate internationally and rely on expert support to manage the tax, payroll and compliance complexities of moving people across borders. As global workforces become more mobile and regulatory expectations increase, providing high-quality global mobility advice is essential to helping clients grow confidently and stay compliant.”

James Wheeler, Global Mobility National Practice Lead at the firm, said: “I am delighted to welcome Karen Groat as a Director in our expanding National Global Mobility Team. Karen has over 30 years’ experience working in the Aberdeen market, focusing on the complexities and challenges that employers face regarding the deployment offshore personnel, particularly in the energy sector.”

Karen Groat said: “I’m delighted to be joining Blick Rothenberg at such an important time for Scotland’s offshore energy sector. The opportunity to support clients in navigating the increasingly complex tax and global mobility obligations for offshore crews is both exciting and rewarding.”

She added: “Ensuring that employers meet their responsibilities while enabling their people to work efficiently across borders is a challenge I’m passionate about. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth and to working closely with our clients as the industry evolves.”

Karen will work closely with Blick Rothenberg’s Group colleagues at Azets’ office in Aberdeen, advising employers on meeting their responsibilities across multiple jurisdictions. Her experience spans complex areas such as mariners’ taxation, residency and payroll compliance, social security coordination, rotational workforce planning, and managing cross-border risk for globally deployed crews.
