Sue Holmes returns to Smith & Williamson as Director of Tax Investigations

 In Uncategorized

Smith & Williamson, the independent investment management, financial advisory and accounting group, has hired two new tax directors.

Sue Holmes has rejoined the firm as Director of Tax Investigations. She will support the tax teams across the group and will be primarily based in Bristol at Solomon Hare (which is a member of the Smith & Williamson group). “I am delighted to be back at Smith & Williamson and am looking forward to working with the firm’s tax teams.  Over the years I have seen a gradual rise in the level of investigations; however, since the Inland Revenue and HM Customs merged to form HM Revenue & Customs, they seem to be steadily more focused on targeting cases of fraud and anti-avoidance.”

Sue joins from Deloitte where she lead the London Tax Investigation’s team.

Also joining S&W is Martin Courtney. Martin specialises in the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, group reorganisations, and corporate acquisitions and disposals. He also has experience of the tax elements of corporate recovery, whether through managed restructuring and refinancing or the formal insolvency process. Of his appointment, Martin said: “Smith & Williamson has an excellent track record of providing high-quality advice to clients from new entrepreneurial businesses to quoted companies. I am looking forward to using my knowledge and experience to complement the skills of the corporate tax team.”

Martin is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Taxation and joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
