Barnes Dennig hires tax director
Barnes Dennig, the fifth largest accounting firm in Cincinnati, has announced the hiring of John Michel to the position of tax director. John has 25 years of public accounting experience on the local and national level, and his expertise on tax matters has made him a featured speaker and author.
He has worked with privately held and publicly traded companies in a number of industries, particularly construction, real estate and hospitality. John also has significant experience with companies that specialize in alternative energy and transportation and logistics. His knowledge of those industries and his passion for service will complement the skills of Barnes Dennig’s Construction and Real Estate Service Teams.
After 15 years as a tax partner at a national firm, John was attracted to the opportunity to join an organization that is committed to the region and work with clients who are committed to growth.
“I like entrepreneurial companies,” he said. “Companies that are buying something, doing something, companies that are active.”
John is an authority on pass-through entities, including Real Estate Investment Trusts. His articles have appeared in the Journal of Taxation, The Tax Advisor and Construction Accounting and Taxation, among others, and he has been a featured speaker for the National Association of Real Estate Trusts, the Association for Corporate Growth and the U.S. Green Building Council.
“I have always been impressed by his tax knowledge and professionalism,” said Bill Cloppert, Managing Director at Barnes Dennig. “I know he will be an asset to our Construction and Real Estate clients and believe he will fit nicely into our culture.”
John earned a Bachelor’s degree from Wright State University and a Masters in Taxation from the University of Cincinnati. He lives in Hyde Park with his wife and children.
