Menzies appoints a Corporate Tax Partner in Portsmouth
Tenon’s former Tax Director, Richard Godmon, joined Menzies’ Portsmouth office this month to head up the Corporate Tax team.
“The time of Richard’s arrival is perfect. Since our arrival in Portsmouth in 2002 we have continued to expand and develop our services consistent with our clients’ needs and the evolving needs of the local business community. The recent increase in commercial activity in and around Portsmouth coupled with the increase in instructions for the firm means that now is the right time to enhance our corporate service and appoint a Corporate Tax Partner to our team.” Says Richard Dodd, Managing Partner, Menzies, Portsmouth.
“By providing partner-led services we feel that our clients benefit from having a single, senior point of contact in the office. Richard is hugely experienced and has a knowledge and expertise that will complement our existing practice and be beneficial to our clients”, adds Richard.
Richard’s approach is very much relationship-led, advising business owners through the life span of their organisation from the early years of growth to putting together a succession strategy in the later years.
“My approach has been one of understanding the business, the short-term and long-term aims of the owners; not simply confined to their business aims but their personal aims as well. The two are closely linked as an owner- manager. This knowledge puts you in a better position for providing advice, and that advice has more meaning to the client”, explains Richard.
Richard has a particular expertise in advising on the taxation aspects of share option schemes, cash extraction strategies and group re-organisations. He also works closely with smaller accountancy practices to help them look after the accounting and taxation affairs of their clients.
Richard’s time at Tenon was spent acting for a broad range of clients from large owner managed businesses through to smaller newly formed businesses. Richard’s work also involves advising on the acquisition and selling of businesses from the small family business through to transactions with sale proceeds of 20million pounds.
Richard was a regular speaker on the taxation aspects arising from the sale of owner managed businesses, contributing to in-house and external seminars.
“Menzies has an enviable reputation throughout the South East for good, solid tax advice. A dedicated corporate tax team with the strong additional resources available to support the client, whether it be outsourcing or personal tax, is something Portsmouth has been lacking until now”, says Richard.
“I am looking forward to taking the firm forward by directing and managing expansion of our corporate tax service in Portsmouth.”
Richard will work closely alongside Menzies’ partners Graham Seddon and Graham Hosemann.
The office has been undergoing a period of growth in the past year resulting in an expansion of its offices in Kingston Crescent and the decision to increase staff numbers over the next few years. Turnover has doubled since the firm established itself in Portsmouth in 2002. The office prides itself on being a strong member of the business community and delivering a personal service normally associated with smaller firms.
