Strong joins Morrison & Foerster in Denver to bolster M&A tax capability
Morrison & Foerster has announced that David Strong has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax Department. Mr. Strong, based in the Denver office and working closely with the firm’s Northern California offices, will focus on federal tax matters related to mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures and other corporate transactions.
Mr. Strong represents leading venture capital and private equity firms, along with telecommunications and other technology companies, major minerals and metals companies, and industrial manufacturers and financial services firms. He regularly advises on complex tax aspects of large domestic and cross-border transactions, including acquisitions and buyouts.
“Our international, market-leading M&A practice is thriving. We have worked on some of the most noteworthy deals in technology, healthcare and consumer products over the last year,” said Suz Mac Cormac, co-chair of Morrison & Foerster Business Department. “David’s experience and expertise offer a terrific complement to our corporate transactional practice, particularly in M&A and private equity, and strengthens our ability to support the large and complex transactional matters we handle for our clients.”
“David is an accomplished tax practitioner who deepens our Denver and West Coast tax capabilities,” said Thomas Humphreys, head of Morrison & Foerster’s Federal Tax Practice Group and co-chair of the Tax Department. “The addition of David, and the recent arrival of Eric Roose and his team in Tokyo, provides us with many opportunities for future growth.”
Mr. Strong said, “Morrison & Foerster is a leading global law firm that is well recognized for advising on large M&A transactions, including recent high-profile cross border deals for Hitachi, Intel, and Toshiba. The firm’s high standards and commitment to excellence, coupled with its impressive client roster and integrated tax and transactional practices, were very attractive to me.”
Whitney Holmes, managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Denver office, said, “David has one of the most well-recognized corporate tax practices in the Western region and particularly in Denver. We are especially pleased to have David join our team and assume a key role in the efforts being led by our corporate partner Hendrik Jordaan, Chair of the firm’s Private Equity Investments and Buyouts practice.”
Mr. Strong is the incoming Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Corporate Tax Committee, and he is scheduled to Chair that Committee in 2013. Mr. Strong earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1995 and his L.L.M. in taxation from New York University in 1997. He arrives from the Denver office of Holme Roberts & Owen, where he was most recently chair of that firm’s Tax Department.
