Tax Hire Boosts Hammonds’ City Practice
Hammonds’ Tax Strategies team is continuing to grow thanks to its fourth hire within the last fourteen months.
Michael McCormack, a qualified tax accountant, joins the London office of the international law firm as a director of tax after working at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, Ernst & Young, and the Irish Revenue.
At Hammonds McCormack will play a key role in helping the Tax Strategies team to further enhance its presence in the City and to expand on the tax solutions work offered to the firm’s clients. His expertise extends to advising on the tax aspects of acquisitions and disposals, mergers, demergers, group reorganisations and reconstructions, management buyout and buy-in transactions and other private equity transactions. McCormack will also work on the tax aspects of commercial agreements, joint ventures, flotations, international transactions, property and private finance initiative and public sector transactions.
Like the rest of the Tax Strategies team, McCormack will work on a national and international basis alongside the five partner regional team of Mark Simpson, Robert Jones, Fiona Sutherland, Tim Jarvis and Bernard McIlroy.
Commenting on his appointment, head of the Tax Strategies team, Bernhard Gilbey said: “We are delighted that Michael has chosen to join Hammonds in London. He is a welcome further addition to our team and brings a wealth of valuable experience with him that will further strengthen our ability to provide excellent client service across the full range of tax advice.”
“With the continued growth of the Tax team’s reputation for offering tailored and bespoke solutions to clients, we have already proved that there can be more to a legal tax practice than technical backroom advice. Michael’s appointment is further proof to the firm’s commitment to develop our tax offering across the UK,” he added.
Michael McCormack said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been given this opportunity to join the Hammonds Tax Strategies team and I am looking forward to playing my part in its continued growth and development.”
Other tax hires include Lawrence Green, Jon Stevens and Sarah Nicholson who all joined Hammonds’ Birmingham office from Eversheds.
