Paula Junghans, former Department of Justice Asst AG, joins Zuckerman Spaeder LLP
Paula Junghans, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, has joined Zuckerman Spaeder LLP as Partner. Ms. Junghans will serve clients with her expertise in criminal and civil tax controversies and white-collar criminal issues.
Paula M. Junghans maintains a diverse litigation and trial practice, with special emphasis on criminal and civil tax controversies and white collar criminal issues. Ms. Junghans counsels corporations and individuals with respect to complex tax disputes and has particular experience in tax procedure, as well as in the interrelationship between criminal and civil tax issues. In addition to tax controversies, Ms. Junghans has represented persons involved in a wide array of federal criminal investigations and prosecutions involving conspiracy, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, health care, currency transactions, environmental crime, and money laundering.
Between 1998 and 2001, Ms. Junghans served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, positions which involved supervision of the litigation of tax cases throughout the United States. Ms. Junghans has tried cases to verdict in a number of U.S. district courts throughout the country, in the U.S. Tax Court, and in state courts, and has briefed and argued cases in several U.S. Courts of Appeal.
Ms. Junghans was the co-author of a treatise on federal tax litigation and is a frequent speaker and writer on matters involving tax procedure and white collar crime. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America and in Who’s Who Legal: The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.
