Raj Tanden Joins Proskauer Rose as Tax Partner in Los Angeles Office
Experienced International Tax Attorney Brings Diverse Expertise To Rapidly-Growing Transactional Practice
Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with over 700 lawyers worldwide, announced that Raj Tanden, whose tax expertise runs the gamut of transactional matters, has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax Department, resident in its Los Angeles office.
He joins a rapidly-expanding transactional practice that specializes in a wide range of matters. In addition to Mr. Tanden, the firm simultaneously announced the L.A.-based addition of Eric Remensperger, a partner who heads the firm’s West Coast Real Estate Department. This followed the addition earlier this year of Fred Bernstein, a partner who focuses on a broad spectrum of activities relating to the creation and financing of entertainment content.
Mr. Tanden advises clients on tax matters relating to domestic and international transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and spin-offs, financial products, joint ventures, private equity fund formation and investment, private placements, capital market offerings, restructurings, real estate and partnership transactions. He has extensive experience handling tax matters arising from complex real estate transactions.
“Raj’s breadth of knowledge will be a vital element in the work we are doing in our transactional practices and an important component of our continued growth in California and around the world,” said Allen I. Fagin, chair of Proskauer.
Michael Woronoff, head of the firm’s California Corporate Department, said, “Raj is the perfect complement to our existing transactional capabilities and will significantly bolster the fast growth in our West Coast practices.”
In addition to his work on domestic and international transactions, Mr. Tanden also represents clients on state and local tax matters, controversies, executive compensation and general tax planning. He has particular experience in the taxation of pass-through entities including partnerships, mutual funds, real estate investment trusts and S corporations.
Mr. Tanden joins Proskauer from Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he was a partner. He has also been an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University School of Law and is a frequent author and speaker on issues relating to taxation and corporate transactions. In addition, he is a member of the Tax Advisory Group for the Investment Company Institute, the Government Relations Committee of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, and the Executive Committee of the University of Southern California Law School Tax Institute. He received his LL.M. from New York University Law School, his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School, and his B.S. from the University of Southern California.
Proskauer’s Tax Department emphasizes its attorneys’ committed and continuing relationships with clients as valued advisors in mergers and acquisitions, asset securitization transactions, bankruptcy restructurings, structured finance, new financial products, tax exemption issues, tax controversy resolution, and cross border transactions. The firm also advises clients on employee benefits and executive compensation matters.
The Los Angeles office of Proskauer Rose delivers a full range of sophisticated legal services on matters arising in California, throughout the country and abroad. Drawing on the breadth of the firm’s expertise, the office accesses the resources of over 700 attorneys throughout the firm’s eight offices to provide the highest quality of legal services to clients in the most efficient manner.
