Two New Tax Partners for Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP
International law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP has announced the appointment of two tax partners to strengthen its London corporate tax and employee share incentives practice. They join the team led by tax partner Peter Steiner.
Michael Cashman will join the firm on 18 June 2007 from US law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius, where he was made a partner in 1997. He is a dual Australian and UK qualified lawyer and an Australian qualified Chartered Accountant and advises on both UK and international tax issues. He has advised numerous companies on both sides of the Atlantic on matters including advice to US companies listing on AIM, implementation of UK M&A and private equity transactions, US/UK company restructurings, the tax aspects of US/UK multi-billion takeovers and the establishment of US business operations in the UK and Europe. He also provides tax advice on financial matters including bond issues and investment management.
James Hill joins the firm on 4 June 2007 from Wilmer Hale. He focuses on mainstream UK corporate tax work, in particular M&A and corporate finance transactions, group reorganisations and venture capital investments. He has particular experience in the technology and life sciences sectors, and also provides tax advice in relation to employee benefits. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and holds an LLM in Tax Law from the London School of Economics.
Paul Maher, London Senior Partner and Vice-Chairman elect, commented: “Our tax team in London and internationally will benefit greatly from the arrival of Michael and James. Their combined experience in London and overseas will add to the high quality tax advice we provide both within and into the UK and Europe, where we have been seeing increasingly complex and tax-intensive work in the field of funds, private equity, cross-border and structured finance, in particular. They will work closely with the London and Continental Europe tax teams and the tax transactions and tax controversy practices in the US.”
Michael Cashman continued: “Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw’s tax team in London is well respected and I am excited at the prospect of joining this enormously ambitious office. For me, the trans-Atlantic dimension to the firm is of particular significance and will give me an excellent platform for my practice.”
James Hill added: “I very much look forward to joining a firm where my core areas of expertise will be used daily, as well as providing a tremendous opportunity for international interaction. I hope to add value to clients across corporate and in particular in relation to the well established life sciences and technology practices.”
