Tax lawyer Paulus Merks joins DLA Piper in Holland
DLA Piper has announced that Paulus Merks has joined its Tax team as a partner. Paulus joins DLA Piper from Ernst & Young, where he worked for over 12 years in Europe and the US. His broad experience will be of huge benefit to DLA Piper’s international tax practice. Paulus will work closely with the Head of Tax in Amsterdam, Roderik Bouwman.
Paulus Merks is an expert in domestic and international tax law, advising on M&As, public offerings, reorganisations, financial products and structured finance transactions. Paulus has an extremely international practice having worked in Ernst & Young’s Amsterdam, Chicago, New York, Paris and San Jose offices.

Paulus lectures at the Dutch Tax Academy, the PAO International Tax School at Utrecht University, and the International Tax Academy at the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation. He is also a guest lecturer for the advanced LLM programme in International Tax Law at Leiden University.

Paulus Merks (40) studied tax law at the University of Amsterdam in 1994 and has a LLM in American tax law from the University of San Francisco, which he gained in 2002.
