Deloitte coup: 4 new tax partners join Melbourne office from EY

In Deloitte, Ernst Young, Tax Partner Moves, team moves

Four new tax partners joined Deloitte Australia last week as part of the professional services firm’s ongoing expansion of its national Tax practice.

Former partners of Ernst & Young, they will be based in Melbourne and service a wide ranging top end of town client base across Australia. Two will join Deloitte’s Corporate and International Tax area, while the other two join the Financial Services Tax team. Specifically:

  • Patrick Broughan joins Deloitte’s Financial Services Tax practice. Headed by Neil Ward, it is the pre-eminent specialist team in the industry.

  • Vik Khanna, an International Tax partner who has advised on a large number of significant cross-border M&A transactions in the past six years, will head Deloitte’s International Tax practice in Melbourne

  • Tim Carberry, a Corporate Tax partner, brings an industry focus on infrastructure and utilities. He has run the Australian Tax desks in London and New Zealand for a Big Four firm advising large multinationals investing in Australia.

  • Noelle Kelleher adds her extensive tax and industry expertise to the existing strength of Deloitte’s Superannuation practice.

They join Deloitte’s rapidly growing national Tax practice, which has seen a number of other senior, market-leading experts added to the partnership over the last 12 months. The Tax practice has grown by 15% over the past year.

Dwayne Sleep, Deloitte’s Tax leader in Victoria, said the firm has been focussed on recruiting world-class talent to expand its specialist industry expertise and provide additional depth given its significant growth.

“We are delighted to have the four on board and we believe they will add formidable experience to our growing team. Deloitte’s Melbourne Tax practice has grown by 28% over the last year and we expect this positive revenue trend will continue next year,” Mr Sleep said.
