Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati Expands Tax Practice
Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, a provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, has announced that Gregory P. Broome has joined the firm as a partner in its tax practice, where he will focus on corporate and partnership tax matters and provide significant tax expertise in support of the firm’s clean technology and renewable energy project finance practice.
“Greg will be a terrific asset to the firm’s wide-ranging tax practice,” says CEO John Roos. “Aside from having broad and deep experience in partnership and corporate tax matters, he has particular expertise in the kind of complex taxation issues involved in structuring and financing energy-related projects, which is an area of growing importance for the firm and its clients.”
Broome’s experience includes tax issues related to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, hedge and private equity funds, executive compensation, and many other areas. His representation in the energy field includes providing tax advice in connection with the acquisition and financing activities of public utilities and power-generation companies; the formation, purchase, and disposition of generation facilities that qualify for federal production tax credits; and advising a leading power company in the negotiation and sale of preferred equity partnership interests in a gas-fired generation project. Broome also has experience with projects involving wind, solar, and geothermal power. In addition, he has advised companies on taxation matters in many other fields, including publishing, hospitality, and retail and consumer goods.
Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Broome had been a partner at Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner in San Francisco for seven years, focused on taxation. He also had been an associate at Latham & Watkins and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom earlier in his career. He earned his J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1990, and his B.A. in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1984.
Broome will be based in the firm’s San Francisco office.
