Cooley Adds Tax Partner David Fischer to Washington, DC Office
Cooley Godward Kronish LLP announced yesterday that David J. Fischer has joined the Firm’s Washington, DC office as a partner in the Tax group. Fischer was the head of tax litigation at Baker Hostetler and tax coordinator for its Washington, DC office.
“David is a widely respected tax lawyer and will bring additional depth and strength to the Firm’s tax capabilities,” said Phillip Gall, co-chair of Cooley’s Tax practice. “His experience, great technical skills and deep understanding of extremely complicated tax work will be invaluable to us as we grow our leading tax controversy practice.”
Fischer has represented clients in federal tax litigation and controversy for more than 25 years in the Tax Court, Court of Federal Claims, District Courts and IRS administrative processes. Fischer’s practice currently focuses on “listed transactions,” including various basis-shifting tax shelters, charitable remainder trust arrangements and tax-sensitive leasing. He has extensive experience in transfer pricing and with tax issues affecting the financial, hospitality and sports industries.
“We are delighted that David has joined the Firm,” said Roel Campos, Partner in Charge of Cooley’s Washington, DC office and a former SEC Commissioner. “Clearly his area of practice is extremely important in the DC market and it is a key component of our DC office growth and diversification as we continue to expand our presence here.”
Fischer earned his JD from George Washington University Law School and a BA in Economics from Michigan State. He is an active member of the Court Practice and Procedure Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.
