Joe Taylor Joins Weaver and Tidwell as Director of State and Local Tax Services
Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. has announced that Joe Taylor, CPA, JD, has joined the firm as the director of State and Local Tax (SALT).
In this position, Taylor leads the firm’s SALT services group which addresses state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, property tax, nexus, audit management and credits and incentives. His practice concentrates in state and local taxation including planning, analysis and compliance functions.
“Joe’s knowledge of working with clients on state tax minimization strategies and reducing exposure in other states , his ability to successfully negotiate with state revenue agents and departments on behalf of clients, and creativity in the resolving state tax disputes makes him well-suited for Weaver and Tidwell,” said W.M. “Mack” Lawhon, Weaver and Tidwell’s managing partner. “We look forward to incorporating his experience to enhance our SALT practice.”
Taylor brings more than 25 years of tax and accounting experience in public and industry accounting to the firm. His previous practice experience includes international tax matters, federal taxation, provision analysis, reporting under FAS 109 and 10K Securities and Exchange Commission reporting. Taylor’s experience also consists of merger and acquisition, target selection and tax analysis. His knowledge includes audit defense at federal and state reporting level with high incidence of no change in tax result or refund issuance by a tax authority. He has also previously negotiated with the Internal Revenue Service pursuant to filing petition in the U.S. Tax Court.
Taylor’s professional memberships include American Bar Association, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, Federal District Court–Northern District of Texas and United States Tax Court Bar.
Taylor earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from The University of Texas, a Master of Business Administration degree from Amber University and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
