Gardere Wynne Sewell hires tax partner Barbara Spudis de Marigny
Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP has announced that Barbara Spudis de Marigny, a highly regarded tax practitioner in Texas and nationally, has joined Gardere’s Houston office as a partner in the firm’s tax group.
Ms. de Marigny is a business tax planner with vast experience representing business entities in taxation matters, including structuring, formations, mergers and acquisitions and dispositions as well as extensive knowledge in partnership and limited liability company taxation.
She was named in Best Lawyers in America, has been recognized by Texas Monthly and Law & Politics Magazine as a “Texas Super Lawyer” (2003-2008), and named by Corporate Counsel Magazine as a “Best Lawyer” in the area of Tax Law.

TMs. de Marigny obtained her B.A. from Duke University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and her J.D. at the University of Virginia. She also received an L.L.M. in Taxation from Chicago Kent School of Law. She started her career at Baker & McKenzie in Chicago and was a partner there from 1989-1999. Before joining Gardere she worked as a tax partner at Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison & Tate in San Antonio.
She is active in the national tax law community, writing and speaking extensively on tax related topics for groups such as the Tax Executives Institute, Practicing Law Institute, Southern Federal Tax Institute and the Texas Federal Tax Institute as well as tax conferences sponsored by the University of Chicago, NYU, George Washington University and the University of Texas.”
In addition to Texas, Ms. de Marigny is admitted to practice law in California, Illinois and the United States Tax Court.
