Penelope Lang leaves James Cowper to join Smith & Williamson as tax director
Smith & Williamson, the accountancy and investment management group, has announced that Penelope Lang has joined the firm’s Salisbury office as a tax director. She brings[private] more than 15 years’ experience in the bloodstock and equine sector having advised on the tax and financial matters facing owners, breeders, trainers and others working in the industry.
Penelope said:
“I am very pleased to join a team which has such experience in the rural sector .The horse industry as a whole has grown significantly over the past decade, and these difficult times mean there is a need to reflect. The market for good horses remains, but breeders and producers need to consolidate and concentrate on the quality rather than the number of horses in order to succeed. The 2012 Olympics are bringing exciting opportunities for sports horse owners and riders which we hope to be able to capitalise on.”
While Penelope joined earlier this month, Peter Treadgold will be joining the Salisbury office later in the year. Peter, who has an audit and accountancy background also specialises in the bloodstock and equine sector.
“We are delighted that Penelope has joined and that Peter will also be working alongside us. They, rightly, enjoy a national reputation in the equine sector and will work closely with our established teams in the agriculture and landed estates sectors,” said Susan Shaw, head of Smith & Williamson’s Salisbury office.
Salisbury’s bloodstock and equine team of specialists advise on:
business structure and planning
audit, accountancy and compliance with relevant statutes
the ownership of land and related assets to optimise a client’s fiscal position and preserve wealth for the next generation
business and personal tax compliance and planning, including dealing with enquiries from HMRC
VAT advice and planning
Both Penelope Lang and Peter Treadgold join from James Cowper Accountants in Newbury.[/private]
