Boodle Hatfield announces that Sara Maccallum is the new head of Private Client & Tax
Boodle Hatfield has announced that Sara Maccallum has been appointed as the new head of the firm’s Private Client & Tax department.
The position of Department Head is rotated between partners and from 1 May 2011 Sara will take over this role from Sue Laing, who has led the department for the last 10 years.
Under Sue Laing’s leadership, Boodle Hatfield’s Private Client and Tax department has grown in size, expertise and global reach to become a market leader in an increasingly complex environment and the winner of numerous industry awards. Most recently, the team won the STEP 2010 Contentious Team of the Year Award and were shortlisted for the British Legal Awards Private Client Team of the Year 2010. Sue herself is known as one of the foremost private client lawyers of her generation, a reputation built on consistently adding value though a combination of technical expertise, indefatigability and an unrivalled commitment to client care. She is currently shortlisted in the Citywealth Magic Circle Awards 2011 for “Outstanding Individual of the Year” and for “Woman of the Year”. She will continue in practice as a leading partner in the firm’s Private Client & Tax department.
Sara joined Boodle Hatfield in 1997 and became a partner in 1999. A highly technical tax lawyer with a gift for explaining the intricacies in plain English and an ability to push forward commercial solutions, she has a wealth of experience in all aspects of private client tax advice for UK and international individuals, trusts, private companies and substantial family businesses. Since 2005 Sara has led the firm’s commercial tax group and her expertise in the tax aspects of corporate and property transactions will bring a valuable extra dimension to the team’s advice to private clients. In addition to being a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (ATII: Distinction, Avery Jones Medal) she is an active member of the Tax Committee of the British Property Federation.
