Vertex appoints Bill Brennan as Chief Taxation Officer – a new role leading the Chief Tax Office
Vertex Inc., the leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions, today announced that Bill Brennan, a recognized and respected leader in corporate tax operations, policy and management, has joined the company as Chief Taxation Officer.
Brennan has over 30 years of multi-industry corporate tax experience and is a recognized expert in transfer pricing. He is the former Vice President of Tax for the global, multinational healthcare services and information technology provider McKesson Corporation, currently ranked 15th on the FORTUNE 500. In his over 12 years with the company, Brennan grew McKesson’s tax department into a value-added contributor to the company with cross-functional expertise in income tax, financial reporting, M&A, tax examination management and transaction taxes.
As Vertex’s Chief Taxation Officer, Brennan will provide insight and thought leadership around tax department operations, global tax regulations and policies, and emerging tax industry trends. Additionally, Brennan will advise Vertex’s Board of Directors and senior management on the development of the company’s corporate enterprise tax solutions under Vertex Enterprise.
Bill provides Vertex with invaluable expertise and an understanding of the needs of today’s global, multinational tax department, said Jeff Westphal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vertex.His experience developing a cross-functional tax department serves as a model for the industry and has earned him wide-regard and respect with his peers in the industry. His insight will prove essential to developing solutions that make the tax department a strategic player in the success of their companies.
Prior to his time with McKesson Corporation, Brennan served as the Director of Taxes for GE Capital, the world’s largest non-bank financial institution, where he helped develop the company’s federal tax reporting group. He also served as the Director of Taxes for FORTUNE 500 freight and logistics company Con-Way, as well as MagneTek, a digital power and motion control systems supplier. He began his career in tax in public accounting, including time with both Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young.

Bill’s role involves leading the Chief Tax Office, which includes Bob Norton (CTO, Income Tax), Peggi Rockefeller (CTO, US Transaction Taxes) and Chris Walsh (CTO, International/VAT).
