The South African Institute of Tax Professionals seems to approve of the new SARS Commissioner: Tom Moyane

Mr Tom Moyane has ben appointed as the new SARS Commissioner in an announcement made today by President Jacob Zuma.

Mr Tom Moyane brings more than 30 years’ experience to the role, having worked as a senior executive in various government and private sector entities.

The South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT) were quick to add their support for Mr Moyane’s appointment. Stiaan Klue, Chief Executive of SAIT commented,

“SARS is a vital cornerstone of South Africa’s fiscal order and security, and Mr Moyane’s vast experience at the highest levels of Government and Public Administration stand him in good stead in ensuring SARS continue to serve the best interests of the South African economy.”

Klue believes that a debt of gratitude is owed to Mr Ivan Pillay who has been at the helm of SARS in the interim as Acting SARS Commissioner. “Mr Ivan Pillay needs to be commended for the stability and professional ism he instilled within SARS during his tenure as Acting Commissioner.”
