Withers makes up 7 new partners
Withers has announced a series of promotions to the partnership. They include:
Fernando Gandioli – tax and estate planning team (Singapore)
Fernando advises on US and international tax and estate planning for high net-worth individuals, trusts and estates.
His area of focus includes working with international families and successful entrepreneurs to establish tax efficient succession planning structures; identify tax planning opportunities for clients seeking to relocate to or invest in the US; advise on US tax non-compliance issues and voluntary disclosure.
He has acquired significant cross-border experience advising clients with close ties to continental Europe (particularly Italy and Spain), South America and Asia.
Philip Munro – funds, investment and business tax team (Singapore)
Philip trained as a solicitor at Withers and is now a member of the Funds, Investment and Business Tax team where, as well as estate planning, tax and trust issues for entrepreneurs and their families, he is interested in the use of funds vehicles for private clients.
Philip was rated in the Private Client Practitioner Top 35 under 35.
Kate Landells – family Law team (London)
Ceri Vokes – funds, investment, trust and tax team (London)
Ceri works in the funds, investment, trust and tax team of the wealth planning department and advises UK domiciled and non-UK domiciled high net worth individuals. She advises on all aspects of wealth planning, with a particular emphasis on advising on:
tax efficient investment structuring, with expertise in insurance bonds and other wrappers
investment by individuals and trustees into private equity funds, hedge funds and other alternative investment classes
UK based private equity and hedge fund management in relation to carry and fund structuring
employee tax issues, including in relation to restricted securities and options
Ceri regularly advises on cross border tax planning and has worked closely with a number of family offices, co-ordinating foreign advice.
Prior to joining Withers, Ceri worked as a corporate tax lawyer.
Stephen Richards – contentious trusts and succession team (London)
Chi-Yu Liang, Tax and Estate Planning team (New York)
Chi-Yu focuses on domestic and multi-jurisdictional tax and estate planning for high net worth individuals and their families, with a focus on minimizing U.S. income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes. Chi-Yu has counseled individuals in all aspects of the transmission of wealth, including matters relating to lifetime gifting strategies, estate and trust administration, closely held businesses, charitable giving and premarital agreements. Chi-Yu also has extensive experience advising fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates.
Shannon Smith Retzke – tax team (New Haven)
Shannon focuses on income tax legal issues including voluntary disclosure for non-filing individuals and foreign bank account reporting. She advises on partnership tax planning for closely held businesses as well as U.S. income tax planning matters for U.S. individuals. Shannon is admitted to the US Tax Court.
