James (Jim) Hogan leaves IRS Office of Chief Counsel to join WTAS as a MD in the National Tax Office

WTAS has announced that James F. Hogan will join the firm as a Managing Director in its National Tax Office, based in Washington, D.C.

Jim is leaving IRS Office of Chief Counsel where he served as Branch Chief in the Pass-through and Special Industries Division. In that role, he had responsibility for all matters relating to estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues. Jim has more than 35 years of tax experience in both government and private sectors.

“Jim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and is a nationally recognized leader in estate and gift tax law. He will be an outstanding addition to our team,” said Ellen MacNeil, leader of the WTAS National Tax Office.

Jim will be the third Managing Director to join the WTAS National Tax Office since June of last year.

“Jim’s addition is part of a ‘breakaway’ strategy for our Private Client Service practice. His addition demonstrates our continued commitment to quality and technical competence,” said Mark Vorsatz, WTAS CEO.

Jim is an instructor for the Georgetown University Law School Graduate Tax Program and he has been a frequent speaker at the District of Columbia Bar, California Bar and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, on the subject of estate tax planning.

Jim received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Saint Bonaventure University, his Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his Juris Doctorate from Catholic University
