Doreen Griffith, former Head of Tax for Grant Thornton US, promoted to OMP for San Francisco & San Jose offices
Grant Thornton in the US has named Doreen Griffith as office managing partner of its Greater Bay Area practice. She will oversee the growth and operations of the San Francisco and San Jose, Calif. offices.
Most recently, Griffith served as national managing partner of Tax Services for Grant Thornton. She succeeds Jeff Pera, who will continue to support the Greater Bay Area practice.
Since joining Grant Thornton in 2003, Griffith has served in a number of roles with increasing responsibility, including Tax practice leader for the Greater Bay Area and regional Tax partner. She also served as the office managing partner of the firm’s Honolulu practice.
“Doreen brings to this role proven leadership coupled with an extensive knowledge of tax issues and a deep familiarity with many of the regional resources available to best serve our clients,” said Jacqueline Akerblom, managing partner of Grant Thornton’s West region. “She will be integral in maintaining and building upon the momentum that Jeff established for the firm’s Greater Bay Area practice during the last 11 years.”
As the firm’s Tax Services leader, Griffith played a key role in setting the firm’s tax strategy, launching the Grant Thornton Shared Services Center, serving as senior sponsor for many of the firm’s largest tax clients and prospects, and developing talent for the practice. She has extensive experience in tax consulting, structuring, business operations and compliance for companies and individuals in the real estate, manufacturing, not-for-profit, hospitality and high-technology industries. She also has experience in federal and state taxes for corporations, individuals, partnerships and bankruptcy estates.
Griffith is a certified public accountant (CPA) in California, Illinois, Arkansas and Hawaii. She is a former chair of the Hawaii State Board of Public Accountancy, a member of the California State Society of CPAs and a member of the American Institute of CPAs. She is also a member of the advisory board for the College of Business at Louisiana Tech University. Griffith received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana Tech University.
