Read the Bios of the new Tax Partners at Baker & McKenzie
A large number of tax partners were appointed by Baker & McKenzie in 2015. Their biographies are shown below:
Lucy Alberto (New York)
Lucy was educated at Stanford University and Boston College Law School. She joined Baker & McKenzie in 2006, straight from Law School and was promoted to partner in January 2015 in the New York office.
She advises on the US tax aspects of acquisitions, restructurings, spin-offs, and inbound and outbound investments. She also represents clients in connection with controversy matters.
Marine Dupas (Paris)
Marine was educated at Université Panthéon Assas (Paris II) and completed her Masters in Business Law in 2005. She started her career with with Bakers in 2007 as a trainee.
She specialises in Wealth Management and Employee Benefits.
Michiel Kloes (Amsterdam)
Michiel joined the Firm in 2008, having previously worked with Loyens & Loeff in Amsterdam and New York.
Michiel’s practice focuses on international direct tax law. His areas of expertise include supply chain planning, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, treaty application and EU law. Michiel is frequently engaged in the negotiation of Dutch tax rulings. He regularly works with US multinationals, with a strong focus on companies in the technology and software sector.
Nancy Lai (Shanghai)
Amy Ling (Shanghai)
Amy started her tax career with EY in 1993. In 1997 she moved in-house with UBS, where she worked for 4 years, leaving as an Associate Director. After a career break, during which she attended Brooklyn Law School, she joined Baker & MacKenzie in 2007. Prior to her promotion she was Special Counsel in the Shanghai office.
Mirko Marinc (Amsterdam)
Mirko graduated in 2011 from the University of Amsterdam with a Masters in Tax Law. He then joined Andersen where he worked for 5 years. In 2006 he moved to Baker & McKenzie.
Mirko focuses his practice on matters involving indirect taxes. He has been involved in several M&A projects between leading companies in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as in the IT sector. Additionally, he has implemented VAT-efficient and user-friendly (supply chain) structures in various companies in the abovementioned sectors. Mirko is also actively involved in providing solutions for holding company issues and compliance issues for foreign groups established in the Netherlands and for investment funds doing business in the Netherlands.
Juan Pablo Menna (Buenos Aires)
Juan Pablo graduated in 1998 from the University of Buenos Aires.
Ciro Meza (Bogota)
Ciro Meza is a member of the Tax Practice Group in Baker & McKenzie Colombia. From 2006 to 2010, he was a tax manager at Deloitte’s tax and legal division. Prior to this, he was an associate at Godoy Hoyos Abogados (2003 – 2004) and Araujo Ibarra and Asociados (2001 – 2003), which both specialized in tax and international trade matters. He has written several articles on tax and international trade matters, which have been featured in journals such as Ambito Juridico and Universitas. He has also been a professor of a master’s degree course in taxation at Universidad Externado de Colombia and Universidad Javeriana. Currently he is professor at Universidad ICESI.
Patrick O’Gara (London)
Patrick graduated from King’s College London with a 1st class degree in Law in 2002. He joined Baker & McKenzie in 2004 and specialises in UK and international corporation tax planning for UK and overseas multinationals and private equity investors, with a particular focus on cross-border financing, IP, and supply chain planning, M&A and joint venture structuring.
Christian Port (Frankfurt)
Christian started his professional career with Baker & McKenzie in April 2009 as an associate of the direct tax group. He completed his doctoral thesis in 2011 and passed his tax advisor exam in 2012. Christian has broad experience in the field of corporate reorganizations (mergers/de-mergers). He also specialises in the international taxation of e-commerce businesses and the digital economy (PE issues, WHT issues etc.).
Joshua Richardson (Chicago)
Joshua joined the Firm in 2001 as an Accountant. After attending the University of Illinois College of Law he was made an Associate (2006). He was promoted to partner in January 2015.
He advises multinational companies on tax issues related to cross-border transactions. He also represents clients in domestic and international tax disputes. Mr. Richardson actively participates in the Firm’s pro bono efforts, including the representation of a Cook County detainee in a civil rights action.
Mark Roche (San Francisco)*
Susan Ryba (Chicago)
Susan advises domestic and international companies on U.S. federal income taxation issues. She has successfully represented clients during all stages of federal tax controversies, including obtaining letter rulings, advising clients on audit defense, settling disputes at the audit level and in various alternative dispute resolution forums, defending clients before IRS Appeals, Tax Court, and federal district court, and advising clients regarding Advance Pricing Agreements and Mutual Agreement Proceedings. She joined the firm in 2010 having previously worked at Winston & Strawn.
Michele Santocchini (Rome)
Michele joined Bakers in January 2013, having previously been a Tax Partner at Deloitte in Rome.
Juliane Sassmann (Dusseldorf)
Juliane’s practice focuses on transfer pricing and international tax matters ranging from audit defence and transfer pricing documentation to value chain transformation projects including the valuation of functions for German transfer pricing purposes. Juliane also handles tax and transfer pricing aspects relating to permanent establishments and represents clients in mutual agreement procedures and applications for advance pricing agreements. Juliane has more than ten years of experience in transfer pricing and international tax law. She is a certified tax advisor (German bar) and holds a German doctoral degree.
Prior to joining the Firm in 2005 she worked with PwC for 2 years.
Thales Stucky (Porto Alegre)
Thales provides advice to corporate and individual clients on a wide range of matters such as corporate and income tax implications of investments maintained overseas, repatriation planning, VAT (ICMS, IPI, PIS and COFINS) and advice on general international tax issues such as application and interpretation of tax treaties, taxation of non-residents, thin capitalization, CFC rules, etc.). He is a partner at Trench, Rossi and Watanabe Advogados (the Firm has a cooperation agreement with Baker & McKenzie) having joined the Firm in 2004. In 2008/2009 he was seconded to Baker’s Chicago office.

Jennifer Wioncek (Miami)
Ms Wioncek joined Bakers after completing a Master of Laws, Taxation at New York University.
She concentrates her practice on domestic and international trust planning matters for high net worth individuals. Her practice includes the preparation of wills, trusts and other documents to ensure the effective management and orderly transfer of a client’s property. Ms. Wioncek also has extensive experience in handling multi-jurisdiction estate administration matters She regularly advises clients on the US tax consequences of immigrating to, and expatriating from, the United States.
