BDO UK makes 3 lateral hires at tax partner level: James Egert, Mark Ellis and Phil Hall
BDO in the UK has announced three new tax partner hires:
James Egert, who joins BDO next week (12 Sept), leaves EY’s London team where he headed up the UK tax performance advisory team. Specialising in SAO, tax strategy, risk and governance, James has significant experience in dealing with entrepreneurial mid-market businesses, as well as FTSE companies. His recent focus is in the area of tax responsibility and tax transparency, tax policy development, tax transformation and tax risk management. James also has significant experience in identifying efficiencies and cost savings in how organisations manage their tax function.
Mark Ellis joins BDO’s Manchester office after ten years at Deloitte and leads the North West team. He is a highly experienced VAT practitioner, with specialist expertise in consumer markets and the public sector. Hot topics that Mark is helping clients to address are Brexit, the Union Customs Code, the Base Erosion Profit-Shifting agenda, the EC’s “Action Plan on VAT” and new VAT / GST regimes (e.g. Egypt, India and the Gulf States)
In East Anglia, Phil Hall joins BDO from Grant Thornton where he led the region’s large corporate team. He will provide corporate tax advice to the region’s mid-market and large-sized business, and has significant international experience.
Andy Butterworth, head of tax at BDO, comments: “The changing regulatory environment, and in particular the restrictions in the provision of non-audit services by auditors, has created huge opportunities for the tax team among our mid-market and large corporate client base up and down the country.
“Investing in talent will continue to be a priority for us. We work in a profession where adding value and demonstrating expertise is the foundation for success. Having talented and passionate people like James, Mark and Phil will ensure we continue to remain an adviser of choice for our clients.”
