Jonathan W. Michael joins Dykema in Chicago

Dykema, a leading US law firm, has announced the addition of Jonathan W. Michael to its Tax & Estate Planning Practice as a member in the firm’s Chicago office. Mr. Michael joins Dykema after serving as a shareholder at Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella, P.C.

Mr. Michael’s practice focuses on estate and gift tax issues, with an emphasis on wealth management and business succession planning for closely held business owners and entrepreneurs. He represents a broad array of clients, including business owners and entrepreneurs, executives, individuals and families with inherited wealth, not-for-profit organizations and charities.

Mr. Michael has extensive experience in representing corporate and individual executors and trustees in probate and trust administration matters and related litigation, including advising clients in properly carrying out their fiduciary duties; contested estates, actions to construe and/or reform estate planning documents containing improper or ambiguous terminology or scrivener’s errors; and gift and estate tax controversies with state and Federal taxing authorities.

Outside of his practice, Mr. Michael is an Adjunct Professor in the LL.M. Program at The John Marshall Law School and the DePaul University School of Accountancy and MIS. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

He earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami (Florida) School of Law, an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and a B.S. in Finance from Miami University (Ohio). Mr. Michael is licensed to practice law in the states of Illinois and Florida.
