Simon Browning and Michael McLaughlin join RSM tax partner team in Nottingham
RSM has appointed two new partners to strengthen and expand the firm’s corporate tax capability in the East Midlands region.
Simon Browning and Michael McLaughlin will be based at RSM’s Nottingham office, and add to the firm’s two recently promoted tax partners: Leicester-based Sheetal Sanghvi and Nottingham-based Mike Plant.
Simon Browning brings over 20 years of experience working primarily with owner managed and private equity (PE) based businesses across the East Midlands region. With extensive experience in building and growing specialist teams, Simon will look to further bolster RSM’s existing tax team to strengthen its ability to serve clients with multiple needs, and to build skills to deliver locally. He joins from UHY Hacker Young.
Michael McLaughlin joins after 19 years with PwC, where he specialised in working with listed and PE-backed businesses with an international footprint. Michael brings a strong working knowledge of the retail and consumer, manufacturing, and financial services sectors within the East Midlands region.
The tax team is further bolstered by Sheetal Sanghvi’s promotion to partner. She advises middle market and large businesses and heads up the firm’s R&D business across the Midlands, East Anglia and the South West. Last year the R&D scheme provided over £180m in tax relief to East Midlands-based businesses alone.
Mike Plant, who was also promoted to partner, covers corporate tax, focusing largely on advising mid-market companies, international businesses and private equity-backed firms, and enjoys serving clients across the East Midlands.
Simon Browning said: ‘I’m delighted to join RSM. The fundamental strengths of the business are what attracted me, not to mention the firm’s confidence in increased investment in these uncertain times – that’s exciting. It is a business that already enjoys great success and is well placed to continue to build on this.’
Michael McLaughlin comments: ‘I’m thrilled to be a part of the team. RSM is not only a business that enjoys a significant, diverse and growing market share at a national level, but one that offers a tax advisory practice that leads the East Midlands region in terms of its size and capability.’
Richard King, office managing partner for RSM in Nottingham, said: ‘I’m thrilled with our new appointments. Looking to the future, as the first-choice adviser to middle market leaders here in the East Midlands, our breadth of service line and sector capabilities, coupled with our unrivalled regional presence, make these appointments together with our future investment plans a very exciting prospect indeed. I look forward to working closely with Simon and Michael.’
‘At what is a very difficult time for businesses across the region, I’m confident that Simon and Michael will play a very significant role in supporting RSM’s clients through the ongoing crisis and beyond.’
