RSM UK has appointed Matt Taylor as tax disputes partner within its private client team in London.

Matt has over 25 years’ experience helping clients successfully resolve their tax disputes with HMRC. He joins RSM from PwC, where he spent 19 years advising corporates, high net worth individuals and partnerships. He has specific experience in the sports and entertainment industry, with past clients including football and rugby clubs, governing bodies, and multinational media companies. He began his career as a HMRC inspector.

His specialisms include the taxation of UK and international sports professionals and entertainers, advising on HMRC enquiry powers and procedures, as well as image rights arrangements, to name a few. During the pandemic, he negotiated time to pay arrangements with HMRC and secured government Covid support for businesses with operations in the UK and Europe. Matt will continue to specialise in these areas at RSM and will also take on responsibility for leading the disputes business in the London and Southern region.

Matt Taylor, tax disputes partner at RSM UK, comments: ‘I’m proud to be leading the delivery of our service offering to clients and intermediaries in London and the South at a time when successfully managing your relationship with HMRC has never been more important. HMRC’s powers have increased over time and there’s more onus on taxpayers to tell HMRC about inaccuracies and errors, so having someone to facilitate this can make a huge difference. The firm’s focus and investment in this area is one of the main reasons that I was drawn to RSM.’

Andrew Walker, partner and head of the tax disputes team at RSM UK, said: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Matt to RSM, where we have an experienced and dedicated tax disputes teams in the tax market. Bringing someone with Matt’s expertise onboard will allow us to continue supporting our existing clients in their dealings with HMRC but also expand into the intermediary market who often require the tax disputes skillset that we’re able to offer.’
