Former Director of Tax Law at HMRC, Rachel Sandby-Thomas, joins BERR
Rachel Sandby-Thomas is to join the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) as Solicitor and Director General on 31 March 2008. She will lead a team of 220 people, including more than 100 lawyers. Rachel joins the Department from Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), where she is currently Director, Tax Law.
Permanent Secretary, Sir Brian Bender, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Rachel to the Department, where I am sure she will build on the excellent legal service the Department currently enjoys. Rachel brings considerable experience, particularly in EU and public law. She joins at an exciting time, as the Department continues to build its reputation as an effective voice for business at the heart of Whitehall.”
Rachel’s appointment follows a civil service-wide competition. She replaces Anthony Inglese, who is leaving the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform for a new role at HMRC.
