Deloitte Balkans Announces New VAT Partner – Pieter Wessel
Pieter Wessel first joined Deloitte in 2002, becoming the Indirect Tax team Leader and afterwards the Sub-Service line Leader for Indirect Tax in the Dutch mid-market sector (fast-growing companies with an annual turnover of 50 – 500 million Euro). With deep VAT knowledge and application of VAT legislation in numerous EU countries, his experience also includes acting as advisor on Indirect Tax matters to Energy & Utilities clients and serving a number of important clients in various industries such as banking, energy and resources, private equity funds, medical and IT&C technology.
The new Tax Partner will be headquartered in Romania and will initially concentrate on consolidating the Deloitte VAT practice with an aim to position the Firm as the leading provider of such services in the Balkans. “The Value Added Tax (VAT) is a key element of the fiscal system and countries worldwide are constantly working on improving its efficiency and benefits for both the state and contributors,” said Pieter Wessel. “Our fiscal consultants, permanently monitoring these developments, benefit from the complex perspective provided by the international reach of the Deloitte network. Developing regions such as the Balkans need experts with a robust expertise, and I am confident that our practice will further prove it can make a difference for our clients’ businesses.”

“As key member of Deloitte Central Europe, Deloitte Balkans is committed to the regional market, constantly developing its team and adding top professionals, in an effort to improve services and adapt to our clients’ needs,” underlined Ahmed Hassan, Audit Partner, who has recently been appointed new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deloitte Central Europe (DCE), effective January 1.
