Dual Qualified US/UK Tax Lawyer, Jenny Wheater, joins Duane Morris
Duane Morris has announcde that Jenny Wheater has joined the firm’s Corporate Practice Group in the London office as a partner. Wheater’s addition further strengthens Duane Morris’ global corporate capabilities, particularly in the area of tax issues in private equity and cross-border transactions. Wheater joins the firm from Proskauer Rose LLP.
Wheater focuses her practice on the tax aspects of a broad range of issues. She has significant experience in structuring private equity, venture capital and other funds, including holding companies, carried interest and deal structures. Additionally, she advises extensively on value-added tax (“VAT”), corporate residence and the various anti-avoidance regimes in the UK. Wheater has broad knowledge of employment and equity incentive tax issues, notably in the area of internationally mobile executives. She has also advised on mergers and acquisitions. As a dual qualified lawyer, admitted to practice in both England and Wales and also New York, Wheater is familiar with a number of UK/U.S. cross-border tax issues and advises clients in Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and related inter-governmental agreements.
Wheater is a member of the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Tax Committee. She serves on the editorial board of Business Law International, an International Bar Association publication, advising on the topic of tax law. She is a frequent writer and speaker on UK tax issues, most recently on such issues as FATCA, modern fund structuring and the UK employment-related securities regime.
Wheater earned her LL.M. in Taxation in 2002 from Georgetown University Law Center and her LL.B. in 1994 from University of Durham.
