Tax Lawyers Lavandera, Ortega and Calatayud get partnership at Garrigues plus 4 new tax counsel

At the end of October the Garrigues partner meeting named 7 new partners bringing the total in the Firm to 292. Of these 3 were in tax or transfer pricing:

Francisco Lavandera (Barcelona – Tax).

Francisco specializes in international taxation, providing tax advice to Spanish business groups in processes for their internationalization, as well as to foreign investors, both industrial and financial, on setting up for business or investing in Spain. He has participated in numerous M&A transactions and has advised foreign financial institutions and funds in the analysis of the tax aspects of their products or investment schemes.

He provides recurring tax advice to multinational groups with presence in Spain and to Spanish family-run businesses in the context of their business activities.

He is a lecturer in international taxation on the Master’s Degree in Tax Management and Consulting at ESADE and on the Introductory Course in International Taxation offered by the Barcelona Bar Association. He also regularly takes part in seminars and conferences at academic, business and legal institutions and forums.

Mario Ortega (Madrid – Transfer Pricing).

Mario Ortega is the partner in charge of the Transfer Pricing Department at Garrigues’ Madrid office, where he has pursued his entire professional career.

He specializes in tax law, mainly in the area of transfer pricing and international taxation.

In particular, he is an expert in the design and implementation of transfer pricing policies, above all at an international level, reorganization and value chain analysis, business restructuring, the valuation of related party transactions, mutual agreement procedures, advance pricing agreements, tax inspections and the performance of global documentation projects relating to multinationals operating in various economic sectors. Mario was named in “Tier 1” in the 2014 and 2015 editions of “World Transfer Pricing”, forming part of the team singled out by the directory, which ranked Garrigues as a firm of choice in Spain in this specialist area.

He is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences staged by the Firm and an array of specialist centers (Instituto de Estudios Fiscales, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, etc.) and lectures at Centro de Estudios Garrigues on various postgraduate programs (Master’s Degree in taxation, Executive Master’s degree in taxation, Executive Master’s Degree in International Taxation) and training courses (Virtual Classroom, Specialist Transfer Pricing Course, Specialist International Taxation Course).

Javier Calatayud (Valencia – Tax).

Javier joined the Firm in September 2002 following a year and a half in the audit department at Arthur Andersen.

He is the Partner in charge of the Accounting Law practice at the Valencia office. He has taken part in numerous company and business acquisition, corporate restructuring and refinancing transactions. He provides recurring tax advisory services to family groups and multinationals, in industries such as ceramics, food, concessions and real estate.

He has spoken at a host of taxation-related courses and seminars staged by both the Firm and third parties (Fundación Universidad Empresa, Centro de Estudios Financieros, the Valencia Economists’ Association, Universidad Europea de Madrid, the Valencia Bar Association, etc.).

Javier is a member of the Valencia Economists’ Association and the Valencia Bar Association, and has sat on the Tax Law Committee since 2013.

He was singled out by “Best Lawyers 2014” in the Tax–Valencia category.
