Mary Duffy joins WTAS as MD in the National Tax Office
Mary Duffy has joined WTAS Los Angeles as a Managing Director in the firm’s National Tax Office.
Mary has over 17 years of experience and was most recently with the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) where she served as a Legislation Tax Accountant since 2011. In that role, she was one of two accountants on the staff of the JCT, a nonpartisan committee of the United States Congress responsible for assisting Members of Congress and their staff with all aspects of the tax legislative process. While with the JCT, Mary worked with key tax personnel within Congress in the development and drafting of tax legislation as well as various tax reform proposals.
Prior to Mary’s role with the JCT, she was with Deloitte Tax LLP’s National Federal Tax Solutions tax practice. She advised clients on complex tax accounting method issues, with a focus on tax inventory methods, including issues arising in connection with IRS examinations, transaction planning, due diligence and the financial statement implications of such issues.
“The addition of Mary demonstrates our belief in the value of intellectual capital. We are focused on building the depth and range of specializations of our National Tax Office and having Mary join WTAS is an absolute example of this,” said Mark Vorsatz, WTAS CEO.
This is the second Managing Director to join the WTAS National Tax Office since June of this year.
“Mary is an outstanding multi-dimensional resource, combining deep technical skills, legislative insight and project management. She will be a great addition to our team,” said Ellen MacNeil, leader of the WTAS National Tax Office.
Mary received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Science degree in sociology from Northwestern University.
