Mayer Brown JSM announced today the appointment of Pieter de Ridder as managing partner in Singapore following the retirement of the firm’s founding Singapore managing partner, Kevin Owen.

Mr. de Ridder, a partner in the Singapore office, has spent more than 25 years in Asia advising multinational companies and institutions on taxation matters relating to direct investment, restructurings, financing arrangements, private equity and supply chain structures. He has an in-depth understanding of taxation systems across many Asia jurisdictions, including Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China.

Pieter de Ridder will succeed Singapore’s founding managing partner, Mr. Owen, who will retire after more than 20 years of service with the firm. A well-recognized lawyer in the areas of dispute resolution, projects and construction, Mr. Owen led the Construction team in Hong Kong before relocating to Singapore to take charge of the firm’s new office in 2011.

“I am confident that Pieter will build upon the success of our Singapore office and maintain our momentum in Southeast Asia,” said Terence Tung, the senior partner of Mayer Brown JSM. “On behalf of our partners, I would like to thank Kevin for his many contributions to the firm. His dedication has been integral to the growth of our Singapore office.”

“It is an honor to be taking on the role of managing partner for Singapore, and I am excited about the years ahead for our firm in Southeast Asia,” added Pieter de Ridder. “Our clients’ increasing interest in frontier markets in Asia puts us at a unique advantage, as it is one of the few law firms that has both the breadth of offering and the international platform to serve client needs.”
