Caterpillar appoints Abhishek Shah as VAT/GST Lead for Americas Region

Abhishek Shah has been promoted at the global tax team of Caterpillar, as VAT/GST Lead for the Americas Region and has been relocated to Peoria, IL.

After spending close to 5 years in Singapore, leading the VAT/GST function for the Asia Pacific region, Abhishek will be now be supporting the businesses located across Canada, USA and the entire Latin America, on the indirect tax front.

Abhishek has worked closely with the businesses in Asia when the region went through tectonic shifts on the indirect tax front – introduction of GST in India, expansion of VAT in China and roll back of GST in Malaysia.

Indirect tax laws are constantly evolving to keep up the pace at which the companies are adopting new ways of doing business and using digital platforms, which has superseded the brick & mortar models. The tax departments must, therefore realign their strategy to reduce tax risk and optimize indirect tax cost.

Canada and some of the Latin American countries have long had their reputation of being one of the most complex VAT systems around the world and Abhishek’ years of experience in dealing with Asian countries with similar architecture, and his expertise of the subject would be the right combination for the new role.
